DJ Pierre Live on Sole Plates Show, ALL FM
Before there was Madchester, the Haçienda (or a single 24-hour party person) there was the music, and although Manchester will forever be synonymous with dropping Acid House on the UK masses, it was very much a Chicago invention.
Long recognised as one of the Windy Citys Godfathers of dance, Nathaniel DJ Pierre Jones is the legendary Chicago based DJ and producer who is widely credited as releasing the first ever Acid House record.
Working with production partner, Earl Spanky Smith Jnr, DJ Pierre put out the Acid Tracks EP on Trax Records under the pseudonym Phuture in 1987.
The track was born following Pierres experiments with a Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer, (bought second hand for $40), which accidently spawned the famous squelch sound that became so synonymous with 80s Acid House.
Nearly 25 years on, DJ Pierre will feature as a special guest on Manchesters 96.9 ALL FM Sole Plates show, from 11pm on Friday 27th January, as he chats to host Ian Fletcher about life, music and the now famous Chicago-Manchester Acid House revolution.
The interview will then be followed by a special Sole Plates Wild Pitch mix recorded especially for the show. The show is a great prelude for DJ Pierres Manchester fans as the DJ will be making a special live appearance at 4Q In the Dark at Joshua Brooks, on Saturday 11th February.
After the 1980s Acid House phenomenon, DJ Pierre moved to New York to take up an A&R post at the legendary Strictly Rhythm label, and over the next five years developed his unique Wild Pitch sound, scoring a string of hits including Generate Power by Photon Inc, Follow Me by Aly-Us and The Horn Song by The Don.
Described by Allmusic.com as a "crucial DJ and the production wizard responsible for the development of Chicago acid-house", DJ Pierre is still one of the most in-demand producers and DJ's, playing regularly across Europe as well as New York City and his native Chicago.
