Whether it's creating beats for hip hop artists like Eminem, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and De La Soul, remixing soul and funk classics by Roy Ayers, Danny Byrd or Al Jarreau, or turning records like Shaun Escoffery's 'Days Like This' into a massive deep house bangers, DJ Spinna's worldwide reverence comes from his ability to succeed no matter what style of music he turns his hand to.
Albums like his now legendary 2003 hip hop meets funk and jazz longplayer 'Here To There' (stream above) showcase a mastery of sampling, live instrumentation, hip hop swagger and deft production skills, the very thing that has artists like Mary J Blige seeking studio know how, whilst Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist have all called upon his immense presence as a DJ.
The middle of June sees the a very rare appearance on British soil from the man himself, as he hits Liverpool's Shipping Forecast on the 13th and Manchester's Dry Bar on the 14th June. Expect to be treated to an incredible selection of hip hop, disco, boogie, soul, funk and house as the tireless producer unleashes one of his notoriously freewheeling sonic experiences.
