93 DAYS TO GO - MORE LEGENDS AND NEWCOMERS ADDED TO DOWNLOAD 2007
EVANESCENCE, MÖTLEY CRÜE, GALLOWS, 30 SECONDS TO MARS, ENTER SHIKARI, MACHINE HEAD AND BOWLING FOR SOUP.
The countdown continues to the first major festival of the season and with 93 days to go Download Festival is thrilled to announce the addition of seven more bands ranging from legendary status to the cream of the new breed. Evanescence, Mötley Crüe, Gallows, 30 Seconds To Mars, Enter Shikari, Machine Head and Bowling For Soup have all been confirmed to join headliners My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden over the weekend of 8, 9 10 June.
Evanescance make their second Donington appearance at this years Download Festival. Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, compelling lyrics, poignant piano and stunning vocals, fused with Terry Balsamo's urgent, yet intricate guitar, form a seamless, ethereal mixture that perfectly channels Evanescence’s hard rock and classical sensibilities. The craftsmanship of combining these two genres have seen them win two Grammy’s, and sell in excess of 14 million albums.
Evanescance’s Amy Lee said… "We are really looking forward to Download. The UK fans are awesome and we are playing with some great bands. It should be cool."
As one of the most influential bands of the '80s, Mötley Crüe return to Donington Park for the third time, although this will be the first time for a 17 years. Mötley Crüe are truly one of the great rock bands of all time, throughout their career there have been fights and excess, but one thing has remained consistent, their music, which has always been true to their roots. Having released 13 albums, and selling in excess of a massivr 40 million, the original line up of Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee are guaranteed to bring the flamboyance and raw power to the stage that has won them so many fans over the years.
Mix up astounding riffery, off-kilter tempo changes, and rock n’ roll swagger, then wrap it up and seal it in a blood soaked Union Jack, and you have Gallows. Seen by many as the best UK punk band in the past 20 years, and tipped for big things in 2007, Gallows have captured the imaginations of rock/indie critics alike, never straying from their hardcore roots the Gallows will give one of the performances of the festival season.
Gallows Bassist Stuart Dili-Ross enthused 'Playing Download is a really big deal for us! Download and Donington are like legendary historical events and its insane to be involved, rather than just going and partying and watching bands like we were a couple of years ago. Cant f**ing wait'.
2007 will mark 30 Seconds To Mars’ Donington Park debut. Currently on an extensive tour of the US, Jared Leto (vocals and guitar) and his brother, Shannon, set up the band as a small family project, things started rolling pretty quickly and before they knew it there was a massive demand for their self-titled debut album. Having signed to Virgin Records, their second album, ‘A Beautiful Lie’, debuted in the US Billboard chart top 40 and has sold around a million copies.
30 Seconds From Mars’ lead singer Jared Leto said…"We are very proud and excited to be part of the Download Festival's short but incredibly impressive history. We recently finished our very first European tour and it was nothing short of phenomenal so we are even more thrilled to be coming back to be part of such an amazing line-up of legends and newcomers alike."
Enter Shikari are one of the most innovative bands of the past decade, pulling influences from dance and rock they have amalgamated the two and created a phenomenon! In 2006, as an unsigned band, they sold out the London Astoria (1,800 capacity), and made their Download festival debut. Tipped by the BBC as ‘The sound of 2007’, and ‘Ones To Watch in 2007’ by numerous areas of the media, Enter Shikari received an abundance of big money offers from record labels, but decided to go it alone with their own label Ambush Reality.
Enter Shikari lead singer Rou said "Download is going to be mega! To play it is out of this world. I'm gonna to do 10 Barbara Windsor’s before I go on stage and then clout Chris Batten (bass) in his trout claspers. That will put him out of action for the weekend. Killer."
Multi-million selling Machine Head are arguably one of the most influential bands of the past 20 years. To witness Machine Head live is to understand both their unique internal chemistry, and the undeniable bond that the band shares with its audience. In a career that spans over 15 years, their performance has been honed and strengthened through nearly seven years of non-stop worldwide touring. This is the third time Machine Head will make an appearance at Donington Park, their last triumphant performance in 2004 saw them voted Band Of The Day on the official Download Festival website.
Guitarist Phil Demmel said, "Machine Head is totally stoked to get back to Download. Download 2004 was the highlight of my musical career so far, so we look forward to increasing on that. The UK rocks... And Download rules!!"
Bowling For Soup are the ‘largest’ band from Texas. After receiving critical acclaim for their early albums it was ‘Drunk Enough To Dance’, that saw them catapult into the mainstream. The first single taken from the album, ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’, saw them make the Top 10 in the UK, and receive a Grammy nomination. Still selling out tours to thousands of fans across the US and UK, they return to Download for their third appearance after a hiatus in 2006.
Jaret Reddick of Bowling For Soup said "We couldn't be more excited about our return to Download... the caliber of the bands and the diversity of the music and music fans makes it one of the best weekends ever... not to mention there is free beer if you play and the occasional sandwich, which would be reason enough to play, even if they didn't pay us... now all I have to do is try and be sober enough to remember seeing Slayer!!!"
