On Friday 15th August at 7:30pm, Manchester’s landmark event space Victoria Warehouse is working alongside Secret Cinema to stage a special, one-off impromptu screening of Dead Poets Society to celebrate the life of Robin Williams, with all proceeds from the event going towards mental health charity Mind.
Dead Poets Society, the BAFTA and Academy Award winning film directed by Peter Weir, tells the story of English teacher John Keating (Robin Williams) who inspires his students to follow their dreams through his teaching of poetry. The role is widely recognised as one of Robin Williams’s best and the classic ‘Carpe Diem’ speech in the 1989 film remains an unforgettable moment in his acting history.
Secret Cinema, London’s immersive film-experience company, announced the plans to screen Dead Poets Society in London, encouraging others from around the UK to honour the memory of Robin Williams by holding their own screening and raise money for Mind.
Victoria Warehouse comment: “We are very happy to be working with Secret Cinema to support Mind. It’s such an important charity and we hope this nationwide screening will help raise awareness and funds for the good work it does."
“In addition, we are huge fans of Robin Williams and of Dead Poets Society and so we’re delighted to be showing the film tonight.”
The event is free, but attendees will be asked for a discretionary donation at the door, which will go to Mind. Victoria Warehouse will also be serving drinks at the event. The movie is also PG and anyone under 14 years of age will need to be accompanied by an adult. Head here for more info and to secure your free tickets.
