As one of the most loved record shops in the world, Eastern Bloc has been intrinsic to the musical landscape of Manchester and the UK as a whole since it set up in the mid eighties.
The store was responsible for breaking a lot of new dance music in the late eighties too, being one of the few shops in the UK to import music from around the globe, as well as directly nurture the careers of icons like A Guy Called Gerald and K-Klass.
With previous staff members including Justin Robertson, Marcus Intalex (Trevino), AnD, Will Arnaldo, Mark XTC andPaul Taylor, Eastern Bloc has no shortage of pedigree, and thirty years later is still one of the country's leading record shops (watch a clip of the shop from 1992 above).
To celebrate, Eastern Bloc Records are throwing an all night party at Band on the Wall, with DJs filling two rooms with house, techno, drum & bass, electronica, funk, soul, disco, reggae, world music, and more. Get your Eastern Bloc 30th Anniversary tickets here.
