First Listen: Antlez 'Best Be Home'

We’ve ripped the cellophane off ‘Best Be Home’, the latest release from Hartlepool five-piece Antlez, who deal in intelligently layered alt-pop that’ll cannon round your head for days. 

Evoking all of the salt sprayed goodness from the seaside, the track accelerates the nautical atmospherics of their previous number 'It Came From The Sea' (listen here), released back in September.

The nucleus to this song lies in its noodley guitar parts and fragmented tempo changes; each transition meanders between intricate, opalescent patches and emphatic churning melodies, until reaching a crescendo that triumphantly saps the energy of each band member.

Relaying a blunt-edged chorus as infectious as they come, its poignant hook heavy lyricism that verses “And It’s You I Hate The Most/And I Wish You Didn’t Know” hits its apex with an a capella that flexes lead Matty’s bold vocal greatly. 

Produced by Chris McManus of Blank Studios in Newcastle Upon Tyne, this release plugs the gap nicely while the band hit the studio tools to work on their forthcoming EP.

Until then, we’ve been invariably hooked on this effervescent slice of indie-pop, and it’ll be slotted firmly alongside the likes of Algernon Cadwallader, American Football and Gengahr into our record collection.
