Charlie Hedges is a key component of Kiss FM's daily programme, proudly hosting their breakfast show and educating the masses with her sharp track selections.
If her job on the waves wasn't achievement enough, Charlie takes to the turntables come nighttime and spins electro house with a twist, playing at world renowned festivals including HD and Sundance. She's also a regular in Ibiza, landing sets at Space and playing aboard the infamous Pukka Up boat parties.
Ahead of her gig at Suede in Manchester this weekend, we asked Charlie to take part in our Five For The Funk feature as she named five tracks that she plays after-hours when she's not behind the decks or the mic at Kiss.
So, Ultra Music Festival recently released a video with an unnamed song which gained over 250,000 views online and this was the track that launched the video - it's now been identified as Norwegian DJ/producer Kygo yet frustratingly, the track remains an ID. I'm loving the chilled out beach vibe feel it has to it and it's definitely a track to sit back, relax and listen to, have as a background track to work to or even grab a cocktail and enjoy whilst watching a sunset, love this one.
There’s two reasons why I'm loving this track at the minute, the vocals from Canadian artist The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) are seriously hot and sound amazing, he's got such a current RnB sounding voice which works so well with this track, and of course it's one of the tracks that makes up the Fifty Shades of Grey Soundtrack - need I say any more?!
I love the deep house take on a classic that’s been remade hundreds of times, incredible how the vocals have been restructured and reshaped which makes it sounds a completely different track to the original, reminds me of a Florence Welch kind of a track. It's got a really infectious melody and going on the new popular theme of future house, this is definitely a good representation of a future classic track.
There’s again lots of remixes of this track flying around, I'm a massive fan of the track in general but this gives a really nice chilled melodic spin on it, a kind of new sexy deep house sound with strong vocals, perfect in a dark/chilled bar vibe or at home winding down on a Sunday night ready for work on Monday (the horror!). I like the fact that the guy behind it (Taches) has kept quite a mysterious profile too, loving what he's doing at the minute!
A classic! Danish electronic music producer Trentemoller captures so many layers in his productions, which this track supports. It's interesting though as to which category you'd put this track in particular under genre wise. Is it minimal, is it trancy? Either way it's a great song and I love it, see what you guys think, definite chill out track.
