Beginning back in February 2011, mute! has evolved to become one of Manchester's favourite house and techno nights. Sticking to its winning formula of dark rooms, amazing sound systems, world class DJs and an audience of party animals, mute! has continued to retain its easy going, classy aesthetic despite having grown significantly in stature.
With residencies at Tribal Sessions and regular stints in Sankeys' upper level rave space Spektrum, mute! have very much embedded themselves in the city's clubbing folklore.
Ahead of Absolutely Terrace at Mantra Warehouse on July 23rd, we've revisited Daniel Sanders and Keiran Sharples' five most fondly remembered moments of mute! history.

Our first event at South, we had never used a venue this big before. There seemed to be a buzz about this one but we never thought it would turn out the way it did. We ended up packed, which was amazing, but unfortunately someone turned the fire alarm on (we didn’t know her at the time but we became good friends) and the power went off for 45 mins.
People started to leave, it was heart breaking after all that work, but we managed to get the power back, the atmosphere was electric and we thanked everybody at the end for sticking with us! Amazing!
Tristan Da Cunha and Frenchy taking care of business, raw cuts and absolute pounding house music. The crowd was unbelievable, one of the biggest we've had even though the headliners may not necessarily be as big in ‘status’ as others. Unfortunately we had another power cut, half of the block went down.
Obviously we were gutted, again. The ones that stayed were stamping their feet, clapping their hands and providing sung efforts of The White Stripes' 'Seven Nation Army'. After noticing the power was still on the bar, we carted the contents of the booth and put it on the bar, with Tristan and Frenchy playing through booth monitors on the bar, they went MAD! Unbelievable.
Daniel: Tobi was the first real massive name we’d had - it was an honour to find out we were recommended by Cocoon. Tobi is a hero of mine and I have seen him play many a time, so to meet him and spend time with him was amazing.
Usually I play with Keiran, for this one he could see how excited I was and let me warm up for Tobi on my own. He was even kind enough to ask me to go back to back for the last hour… the loyal crowd knew what it meant so were all buzzing off it! An unbelievable moment for me and it really cemented us in the city as a serious event.
Keiran: We decided to hook up with the mighty Micron for a short notice free party one Sunday in Fallowfield at a tiny bar called The Corner (now Papa Johns!)
It was an all dayer from 12 till 12 with just friends and residents playing. But these little intimate events are the ones which always turn out to be the most memorable. Dan was thrown out. Twice. And we met some of the soundest people ever that day. The best tunes too, no pretence, just bangers and this along with our free parties at Savannah, Ibiza really do stand out in our minds.
It was Christmas and we’d had such a good year, we'd really made our stamp and were confident in what we were doing. We took a chance on Lovebirds, just before 'I want you in my soul' became mega popular. We hammered the promo and luckily around that time it came out on another label and absolutely exploded.
The place was rammed and although it wasn’t our regular music ‘policy’ it was still absolutely amazing. We ended up stood on the decks having a massive hug, it kind of cemented our love for what we were doing. Probably the best day ever.
