With Latitude now just a few days away, you're no doubt already going through the line up and plotting your weekend's viewing. Well, we've been doing the same. The depth and quality on display this year is phenomenal, with the likes of Portishead, Alt-J and Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds leading the charge.
After a bit of digging and some ruthless exclusions, we've unearthed five acts that we think are more than worthy of your attention between July 16th and 19th.
If you've not read our recent interview with Femi, check it out here. As one of the most revered living ambassadors of Afrobeat, Femi Kuti and his band have been bringing their angsty, rhythmic, jazz infused sound to discerning music lovers across the planet for a number of years. There's a real energetic, visceral spectacle on offer with Femi at the helm, do not miss out on potentially the set of the weekend.
We're big fans on Dan Snaith's Caribou project. Our Love was one of the best LPs of last year, matching his unusual, experimental approach with the modern pop and deep house flavours. His live set at Latitude will delight both the heads and those looking for some sun-drenched feel good vibes.
Warpaint are simply a brilliant band. The lilting guitars, soaring vocals, meaty percussion and chunky bass all combine to create something mystical and enchanting that will surely result in one of the most stunning moments of the weekend.
The emotive, drone-like sounds of A Winged Victory for the Sullen might not be for everyone, but trust us, if you're suffering from excesses the night before, or just want to feed your mind with some of the most stark, and yet beautiful music on the planet, look no further.
Their Atomos LP from last year was one of the strongest modern classical albums to have landed for some time - those after some sonic nourishment and a bit of brain food will be hard pressed to find a better live act.
Leeds based, post rock quintet Vessels have gained an immense following, despite remaining low key in their endeavours. Their four studio albums have seen them veer between epic post-rock and perplexing math rock, whilst their latest moves into the world of murky electronics and blissful techno have seen Vessels continue to astound with their inspired, richly textured output. Highly recommended.
