It's now just one month to go until Mint unleashes it's eight arena festival at Wetherby Racecourse. Inviting a congregation of up-for-it ravers to enjoy the multifaceted program of high end techno, drum & bass, trance and house in all its forms, Mint Festival arrives between 19th and 20th of September with its biggest programme to date.
We've spoken previously of the line up, which boasts veritable giants like Sven Vath, Jamie Jones, Sub Focus, Skream, Sigma and Shy FX amongst a whole lot more (head here for the Mint Festival line up). We've cast our eyes over the bulging roster, and unearthed the five acts we're most excited about.
One of the true greats of house music, Jamie Principle has been responsible for some of the most iconic dance records of all time - 'Your Love', 'Waiting on My Angel' and 'Baby Wants to Ride' being just three. His sleazy, Smokey Robinson style vocals and mastery of acid have laid down a template still loved today, whilst his recent live shows have been nothing short of mesmerising.
There's such a rapport between the Bronx based Martinez Brothers and Seth Troxler that the joy they experience DJing together inevitably spreads through the crowd like a contagious rave virus. Expect a journey from Latin flavoured tech house to thunderous techno as the three kindred spirits bring the party firmly to Wetherby Racecourse. Watch Seth in action at Sonar above.
It's well documented how brilliant DJ Yoda is on a pair of decks, mixing up eighties pop, old TV adverts, Star Wars samples and plenty more in a way that shouldn't work but most certainly does. His exclusive golden era of hip hop set will be a real masterclass in the greatest points of the genre's illustrious history, blended, cut and scratched by one of the best in the field. See him in action at Matter above.
For us, the Apollonia anchor is one of the coolest selectors out there. His quirky, druggy house and techno is stripped bare and dare we say it, minimal, but with more depth than almost any of his counterparts. With grooving, funked up basslines galore, it's music to lose yourself in whilst keeping your feet moving throughout. One for the heads.
Widely revered as one of the finest, if not the best drum & bass ever, Randall is a DJ's DJ - Break, Rossko and Kenny Ken can't all be wrong. A scene stalwart since it all began in the late eighties and early nineties, Randall's DJing skills have inspired the likes of Andy C and Friction as he continues to hold serious reverence in the scene. Check out his technically impeccable set for DJ Mag above.
