For International Womens Day, we wanted to let you in on some of the women we think are gonna set the electronic scene alight in 2023

With it being International Women's Day, we couldn’t think of a better time to shine the spotlight on some of the coolest up-and-coming female spinners in the game. Across the many facets of the genre in the electronic scene, women are trailblazing a new wave of grooving, doing things on their terms.

From those tearing up the UK underground scenes to others making a name for themselves on the sunny shores of Ibiza to well-known radio trendsetters making their own mark, women are continually at the forefront of the ever-shifting realm of electronic music.

So, check out below which women we think are killing it right now, and are set to make 2023 their year to break through the glass ceiling!

Chloe? Caillet

Born in New York, grew up in Paris, studied music in the UK, and raved throughout it all (well maybe not in her early years in New York), Chloe? Caillet is on a path where no one even dares get in her way. Now based in Ibiza, where last year she blew the roof off a DC-10 residency, Caillet is a name on everyone in the knows lips at the minute, and for good reason.

First off, she is first and foremost a raver. From taking her first steps into the nightlife scene in Paris at a young age at legendary, now unfortunately discontinued, venues such as Social Club and Concrete; to religious attendance at drum & bass raves at Motion in Bristol on weekends, the rave is second nature to her, and it translates ever so well into her sets.

Set for another Ibiza residency in 2023 at Hi Ibiza, we can't look past Calliet as the next to break through into the mainstream, and this should be your sign to go and blast some of her tunes, just be warned it’ll have you moving uncontrollably from the get-go!

Manami

Having mastered her craft in the Bristol scene, Japanese British DJ and Producer, Manami, has started to stretch out the reach of her mesmerically trippy, euphoric brand of acid house and trance soundwaves to widespread delight.

She wholeheartedly provides the euphoric escape that many seek in the rave and that in itself is a hard emotion to capture from a crowd, but she seems to do it will ease and aplomb. This devotion to a communal elation in her live sets is one of her strongest assets, and the uniting of dancers is something she has outwardly stated to be a goal.

Manami has a sixth sense for crafting the perfect vibe at a rave, with sets wrought with tension, sprinkled with trance-infused spice, and finished off with some seriously groove-laden drops, the DJ should be someone everyone is keeping an eye out for this year.

Anaïs

Anaïs is a Bristolian DnB producer, former Lakota resident, and a key member of ‘Best Newcomer Label’ winners ‘Invicta Audio’, and has been on a rapid upward trajectory within the scene as of late, killing every stage she sets foot upon.

With a talent for taking her crowd on a supercharged journey with her swift, unorthodox sound that uniquely blends with ragga and 4×4 style, the DJ and Producer seems unstoppable at the minute. From playing Boomtown, featuring on a DnB Allstars night, and most recently bringing her track ‘Tek It Easy’ out on the esteemed Hospitality Records, the Drum and Bass world truly is Anaïs oyster, and we can't wait to see how her 2023 unfolds.

We recently interviewed Anaïs during our coverage of Hospitality records Women and Non-Binary People in the Drum and Bass Scene event as part of their Winter Warmer at the end of last year. You can check out what she had to say - HERE

Hayley Zalassi

If there were ever a producer or DJ who embodied the ethos of ‘strictly party’, it’s Haley Zalassi. The Scottish spinners sets are all energy with little filler, and such mixes set hard stone foundations for Zalassi in 2022, from which she undoubtedly set to build something massive upon this year.

From surprisingly taking over from Ricardo Villalobos on the Sub Club stage at Scottish Festival, Otherlands; to taking the helm at bristols iconic dance haven, Motion; to being chosen by fellow flying Scotsman Ewan McVicar to play his ‘Handpciked’ night at the back end of the year. Zalassi is attracting serious attention and for all the right reasons… mainly, just how bloody good her sets are.

Remember the name, and watch out for her on all the festival lineups in the summer, she's here for the long run and we want to be front and centre for a boogie the whole way.

Jay Carder

From one of the best Radio trendsetters in the UK to one of its best up-and-comers behind the decks, Rinse resident Jay Carder looks set to bring her bass-fuelled stompers to as many people as possible this year, and we back her completely to do so.

Following the wild successes of her excellent debut EP at the back end of last year, led by the groove-inducing ‘Eva’s Stoned’, Carder looks well equipped in knowing what makes a good tune, with her enviable perfectionism transferred from picking out tunes on her radio show to those she creates herself.

It’s only a matter of time before her voice is well known to dance radio aficionados, and her tunes known and played far and wide. We just can't wait to see what her next release has in store.
