Coachella: California's annual pilgrimage of sounds that make you go "urgggh" at the fractional possibility of actually attending. It's on every music head's bucket list and this year they're kinda bringing the festival to us.
Using VR technology, organiser's are given those of you sat at home a chance to experience the festival in virtual reality (read more). Adjust those cardboard headsets, guys. Guns N' Roses and LCD Soundsystem are the obvious must-sees, but we've delved deeper than that to bring you five out of the ordinary.
Embrace the rhythm with Mbongwana Star, a collective from the Democratic Republic of the Congo that fuse native tribal sounds with the damn right funky and futuristic. This seven-piece know boundaries and provide a shining light to a rapidly emerging genre in their home city of Kinshasha.
The reformed shoegazers had a miserable time of it when they toured the US in 1992 supporting Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden and Ice Cube on that year's Lollapalooza, but expect a far more sympathetic audience this time around.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of contemporaries Ride in reminding everyone what a fine band they were, the initial signs are good with new material like from the Blind Spot EP sounding superb.
The 2014 Mercury Music Prize winners have built up a fearsome and uncompromising live reputation since breaking out of their native Scotland in 2013.
A gruelling tour schedule has saw them traverse the US for six weeks in the wake of their Dead debut album and they have since taken their angrily polemical Brit hop to most corners of the world. 2016 has seen them collaborate with Massive Attack on the brilliant 'Voodoo in My Blood'.
Since a marquee appearance on Kendrick's To Pimp A Butterfly, Kamasi is all the word right now, channelling captivating neo-jazz with an extensive 'cosmic-soul fusion' outfit that boasts Thundercat. At three hours long his debut epic is as rousing a listen as you'll consume this year and his Coachella set should prove no different.
A sound-system unlike any other plonked on the planet, Despacio is a unique concept developed by James Murphy and 2ManyDJ's that'll melt your mind.
With focus firmly on the music and not the DJ, the booth is positioned behind the crowd to enhance optimum boogying. As of yet there's no word on who will command the tunes or where it will be situated, but this is Coachella. Immerse yourselves.
