Norwegian sensation Kygo has enjoyed a particularly fruitful 2014, and we popped into see him sell out a show in Edinburgh which witnessed hundreds of fans pack out to see him in blistering form, his edit of Ed Sheeran's 'I See Fire' (below) a particular highlight.
Before he hit the stage we pressed him very quickly on a few things - read what he had to say below.
How is life treating you so far in 2014?
Life is a dream come true this year. I was able to play mainstage at TomorrowWorld and it was definitely the biggest moment of my career to date. This year I’ve been getting used to touring, and playing more gigs. I just did 22 gigs in 23 days… It was a blast!
What producers are doing it for you at the moment?
One of my favorite artists at the moment is Matt Corby – he’s a real legend. I was in Australia with him in September, making music and hanging out. Really inspired me for upcoming projects.
What annoys you most when you are DJing?
Sometimes I get people that are unhappy with the tempo that I play at. I understand where they’re coming from, but at the same time, you’re at a Kygo show… If you want hard-core dance music, you’re at the wrong place!
Which is your favourite country to play in?
I would have to say Norway. There’s something special about playing on your homeland, as people are so so supportive. It can be quite overwhelming - but in a good way!
I am still quite new to playing gigs all over the globe, but I’ve loved it so far. Playing in different countries is so cool as every crowd is different, but so similar in their mutual love for the music.
If you weren’t involved in music, what job would you have done?
My dream as a child was to become a footballer! I used to spend a lot of time practicing football and playing it with my friends.
At what moment did you realise that you had taken off?
That's an easy one - the moment has to be when I entered into the LE7ELS “Miami 82” remix contest and got a call from the label within 24 hours saying they wanted to sign it! (Listen to the winning track below)
It all happened so quickly, as right after that Ultra Music Festival used my remix in its official promotional video. It was all so surreal. At times I still find it hard to believe that this is real life!
Finally, if you could trade places with any other DJ for one night, who would it be and why?
I think I would have to trade places with Diplo! He’s an awesome guy and he’s always up to something super fun. His music style is ultimately very different to mine - so could be fun to see what it’s like to play a set in his shoes.
