Serbia's EXIT festival hits the mighty Petrovaradin Fortress once again this year, bringing with it a wealth of musical greatness, surroundings like no other and a totally unique festival experience. Life under the Balkan sun is made even better with some of the finest live acts and DJs in the world providing the soundtrack between Wednesday 5th - Sunday 9th July, with the festival's location providing tunnels and passageways of discovery in what is a fairy tale-esque world.
With an additional day, that features a massive headline slot from none other than The Killers, strapped on to the front of this year's festival, the temptation to dig out your passport and book a flight to Serbia is almost unbearable. Once you've seen the EXIT festival 2017 line up, the prospect gets even more enticing. Whilst dreaming of sunnier climes, we've picked out the five acts who are set to shine in Serbia.
Liam Gallagher
In the last few weeks, Liam Gallagher's solo career has been fully launched into action with the release of debut single, the sneeringly cool 'Wall Of Glass'. A string of live shows have also followed, not least a slot in front of a packed Old Trafford Cricket Grounder during Ariana Grande's One Love Manchester benefit concert. This saw him deliver his new number in spectacular fashion, whilst also exhibiting bone shaking renditions of some of Oasis' back catalogue.
Solomun
This true don of dance music never fails to deliver with his seismic signature sets, whilst his skills as a remix pro have seen him touch up tracks from the likes of Foals, Editors and more over the years. Last summer Solomun chewed up and spat out European festival stages including Tomorrowland, Ultra Europe and EXIT itself and has over the year proved himself as a must see act at any event. Expect great things from the German resident as he looks to deliver big once again in Serbia with a huge back to back set with Dixon.
The Jesus and Mary Chain
Originally signed to an early carnation of Creation Records, Scottish shoegaze pioneers The Jesus and Mary Chain released their first album Psychocandy back in 1985. Their most recent album, Damage and Joy harks straight back to their debut and is proving to be just as popular at their recent live shows. With hazy vocals over fuzzy guitars, the band are set to be the perfect accompaniment to a Serbian summer night.
The latest techno sensation, Belgian DJ de Witte has been building a head of steam via her productions on the likes fo Sleaze and Turbo, with labels falling over her knack of delivering brutally warped grooves.
As a selector it's her ability to effortlessly build the energy from deeper textures up to pounding kickdrums on no time - as evidenced by the above mix for Studio Brussels. There's few artists better suited to bring the heat in the Serbian dust bowls.
Fancy a bit of Glasgow liveliness in Serbia? Harri & Domenic have been soundtracking the pinnacle of the Scottish clubbing scene with their Sub Culture night for the past 25 years, making it the longest running residence in the world. Expect house grooves and blissful, rare tech sounds as these two bring the party on Thursday 6th July.
