Teuchters Landing is situated in the quaint and quiet area of Leith, North of Edinburgh, well known for its quality restaurants. The beautiful water side setting, serves as the perfect place to enjoy good food made from only the best fresh local ingredients.
The bar's cosy pub-like feel and friendly staff instantly puts you at ease, and with a bar order policy this is the perfect place to meet up with friends for a casual bite to eat. It offers a large dining area which overlooks the docks and an outdoor seated terrace and floating pontoon which would be perfect for a hot summer’s day.
Their quirky ‘mug menu’ is a contemporary twist on a usual bar menu, and helps enhance their laid back atmosphere. Pub grub style food is served in large (pint) or small mugs (1/2 pint) such as Cullen skink, haggis stoves, stew, mac ‘n’ cheese, fish curry, chicken wings, risotto.
We decided to try a few ‘Mugs’ so opted for ½ pint mugs of fish curry, pea and salmon risotto, stew, chicken wings and a side of chips. Plus Teuchters Landing serve fresh oysters, (half a dozen for a tenner), which we added to our order.
Each dish arrived in individual mugs with the oysters in a large oyster shell dish with pickled onion and tabasco sauce. We were impressed with the quality of the food, especially the fish curry with a tasty mixture of salmon and coley in a light creamy curry sauce, not too overpowering and perfectly cooked.
Another nice touch was the spicy ginger breadcrumb coating on the chicken wings, balanced with a sour cream dip. The beef stew was slow cooked in a rich sauce which caused the beef to melt in the mouth, the only downside was the risotto which was a tad too creamy, but tasty all the same.
We wish we had room for dessert from the ‘pudding mug’ menu - but that will have to wait till next time!
There’s plenty on offer drinkwise too, I’m not whisky drinker but the centre piece of the bars is a superb malt whisky selection of around 80 plus 20 different wines by the glass, prosecco cocktails, Champagne and 16 draught beers and cask ales, as well as various bottled Scottish ales and lagers.
All in all, Teuchters Landing is a great meeting place for drinks with friends and a social bite to eat, with great food and a relaxed, cosy atmosphere…so don’t be a mug, go and try it out for yourselves.
