As one of the oldest and longest running dance music institutions in the country, it's only fitting that The Warehouse invites The Godfather of House to step up to the decks to take it into its 34th year. Joining Frankie Knuckles will be Crazy P and Buckley & Buckley in the main room, while Simon Morell and Foz host the 80s loft, with a brand new third Garage Room also opened on the night.
The Warehouse has been a stalwart of the Leeds night scene since the 70s, having played host to some memorable bands and DJs over the years, including Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Sugar Hill Gang, Oasis, The Stone Roses, Sasha, Greg Wilson, LFO and Mike Pickering.
The venue was refurbished and returned to its former glory in 2011, to create a three room club with sharp Function One sound. Alongside the main room there is a cosy Loft Space, and brand new Garage Room with raw brick walls and glass roof showcasing the future sound of The Warehouse with residents from various brands involved with the club. There’s also a great heated outdoor area for smoking and socialising.
House legend Frankie Knuckles is an American DJ, producer and remix artist who played an important role in developing house music as a Chicago DJ in the 1980s and tonight plays a special 4 hour acid house set. He helped to popularize house music in the 1990s with his work as a producer and remixer and was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame in 2005 for his achievements as a DJ. Hits like ‘Your Love,’ ‘Tears’ and ‘The Whistle Song’ will never be forgotten and are so seminal still that they get played each and every weekend across the globe. A true house legend, Frankie is exactly the right headliner to help celebrate such a momentous occasion.
Joining the Godfather of House will be 2020 Vision artists and disco funk pioneers Crazy P for a special DJ set. As well as laying down their own vision for disco as a live outfit, Crazy P are a deft DJ team so expect a fine blend of sultry, nu school boogie and luscious, slo-mo house all with live vocals laid over the top. Back to Basics residents and ex Hacienda DJ Buckley will also bring his house classics to the main room for this huge celebration.
Meanwhile up in the smaller, more intimate second Loft room, FINA Records boss Simon Morell and Foz (Inenco) will be playing a wide variety of classics from all decades and genres, spinning funk, soul, disco, re-edits, 80's classics, house, hip hop plus and maybe the odd power ballad and wedding tune! Obviously this is a very special occasion; backed by suitably large guests, so make sure you snap up your tickets sharpish!
