For 10 years now, Frazi.er and Co have been setting alight Glasgows West Street with their annual house and techno festival, which they have recently rebranded PLTFRM.FSTVL. Taking place under two railway bridges, the festival has been on a consistent rise over its 10 years at the site, and this milestone night, which is also being sold at an insanely affordable price, looks set to be one of the best yet.
The anniversary edition of the festival will see a few people joining Frazi. er, including two very special guest headliners in Floorplan and Speedy J, as well as a whole string of excellent spinners like DJ Heartstring, Clara Cuve, Daria Kolosova, Julian Muller, Arman John, and many other incredible names to look forward to.
So, with the PLTFRM.FSTVL rapidly approaching we decided to catch up with Frazi. er, one of the main men behind the operation, to chat all things PLTFRM, and what punters can expect from this special 10th edition. Scroll down and check out what he had to say!
So, we’re into the 10th anniversary of the festival, and it’s first as the newly rebranded PLTFRM. What can people in attendance expect and what are you looking forward to about it??
"Yes, it’s been crazy to see the project grow over the years. From a small street party with just a table and sound system to high production and some of the biggest international names across the industry is crazy! People can expect a unique vibe, with a fresh approach to the programming which caters for all subgenres of house & techno."
How did the festival first come about?
"Scott initially started the project after wanting to do a charity event in tribute to a close friend. When he found the location he knew it would be perfect and then the rest is history!"
10 years running this event, how have you seen it evolve, and what has it been like seeing the growth for you guys?
"I can remember going to the first one around 6 years ago, it was great to see such an older crowd properly enjoying themselves. It’s always had a more underground and edgy stamp on it compared to your modern festival. I think over the last 3 years I’ve been directing the music we’ve seen a full new generation of ravers coming through which is great to see!"
For anyone who’s not been before, how would you describe it to them??
"An underground street party, situated under two railway bridges with a vibe you wouldn’t expect to see in Scotland."
I’d say one of the best attractions for the festival has to be the site, under the Railway bridges, it's such a cool spot, how did you first secure this space, and how have you developed it as the festival has gone on??
Yes for sure! It was a case of getting in touch with Glasgow City Council and since then they have been pretty supportive of the project. We have made it a safe & secure place, working with only the best companies across each sector. We go above and beyond to make it seem like it’s a proper events space and not just a pop-up street party.
Another thing that's great about the festival is just how affordable it is, it’s a testament to you guys that you do everything you can to keep it this way, especially during times like these, how important is this to you guys??
"Yeah, one thing we really focused on was making it as affordable as possible with the rise in costs & we also want to give something back to the scene.
"In all honesty, we actually made it too affordable giving the huge rise in costs on our end, but we do it purely out of passion & thrive off of it."
Now, onto the lineup, you’ve got some serious names on here, as well as some really cool up-and-comers, particularly local Scottish acts, are there any on the lineup that people may not be as aware of you’re particularly excited for??
"I think for any of the new generations that maybe haven’t seen the likes of Speedy J or Floorplan, they should make sure they catch them. They hold a massive legacy in dance music and complete masters of their craft!
"Daria Kolosova is also one of the biggest female dj’s on the scene atm and will only keep getting bigger so don’t take these guys for granted!"
You’ve also introduced some Eurodance to the festival for the first time, how excited are you to see this unfold on stage??
"We’re really excited and we knew the Sunday needed a fresh approach, as in previous years it’s been a lot slower to sell. This was the best business decision we made and the hype for Sunday is crazy!
"DJ Heartstring seem to be the fan's favourite for this year for sure, they will also play the after-party at Sub Club which is now sold out!"
With the rebrand, where do you see the new concept going over the next five years, and how will it differ? will it be different??
The rebrand was a decision we took our time with. Times have changed, it’s a new world out there and we have massive plans in the future so we’re quite excited about all of this. Next year will be a summer festival at West Street with the autumn edition announcement to follow soon!
Finally, you will also be playing the main stage at PLTFRM, what can people expect from your set?
"This is always a special one for me! I’m playing an evening slot and love to play more groovy for the occasion. With it being open air it doesn’t feel right to bang it out, but with that being said you can still expect a lot of energy! Make sure you're down early enough!"
PLTFRM FSTVL looks set to absolutely blow the minds of all Glaswegians in attendance, but, if you haven't sorted a ticket yet, do not fear, as there are still a few Weekend, Saturday, and Sunday tickets available. Make sure to act fast though, as they are only on sale for two more days. Find tickets below:
