Funkademia 20th Birthday

In an era where Madchester was at its peak and house music dominating the City?s club scene a night based round soul-funk-disco-hip hop music went against the flow and was something of a gamble. The opening night proved a remarkable success and new clubnight was formed. Word got round and by the time the next Funkademia event took place on Boxing night 1995 queues were tailing round the block of the Boardwalk before the doors were opened.

Remarkably 20 years later the night is now Manchester?s longest running clubnight after having equally successful spells at the Attic, Subspace, Zumeba and One Central Street nightclubs. Over half a million clubbers have got down on the funkademia dancefloor and the night is still going strong having just enjoyed its busiest ever year at Mint Lounge.

To celebrate this remarkable achievement on 28th November 2015 we?re having a bit of a do.

When we first started back 1995 David Dunne was the main man at Manchester?s legendary Kiss 102 radio station & he was kind enough to give us loads of support over the airwaves which helped our fledging night take off. So for our 20th birthday do we?ve got David on the decks in the main room to take us back to our roots. Supporting David is the man who dj?ed the very first Funkademia, Payney and the Good for the Soul boys will be lending a hand to.

We have also uncovered an old dusty video from the very first Boardwalk night which we?ll be airing at the Mint Lounge on the night so those original groovers from 20 years ago can come along & see how well their moves and hair lines have progressed

We?ve come a long way from our very first night back in the 1995 at the Boardwalk and with the continued support of our you we intend to keep on keeping on for a while longer yet...
