Futuresonic Festival 2009

 

Futuresonic festival 2009 is coming to Manchester and that can only mean one thing. It’s time to organise your three days to military precision as this year’s musical events have multiplied, gotten more varied and even better.

Thursday

The music kicks off on Thursday 14th May at RNCM with live performances from Murcof & AntiVJ, Jóhann Jóhannsson and Denis Jones, who will be playing across contemporary classical and minimalist electronica.

Also on that night there will be a rare UK live performance from the NYC based hip-hop crew Anti-Pop Consortium with support from local beatfreaks DJ Woody and Fingathing's Peter Parker, bringing a selection of hip-hop, dubstep and reggae.

Friday

On Friday Electric Wizard will be playing their doom metal and occult electronics at the Academy on Oxford Road. The band will also be joined by Xela and The Freezing Fog.

At one of the most eagerly anticipated gigs of Futuresonic Festival, Soap & Skin will performing her atmospheric ballads with the grand piano at the reverent surroundings of Cross St Chapel. She will be supported by Leeds based electronica specialist Ultre.

Also on Friday the Urbis will be torn into electronic destruction with a who’s who in cool electronic music production and remixes. Toddla T, Tim Exile, Hudson Mohawke, Daedelus and DIY Soundsystem will be playing a glorious mix of party tunes and underground electro.

The final offering on Friday comes from indie five piece Extra Life at The Deaf Institute. They will be joined by experimental Chicago rockers Icy Demons.

Saturday

On the final day of Futuresonic festival Phillip Glass will be performing Etudes and Other Work for Solo Piano at the RNCM.

Over in the Urbis a cross-section of the US lo-fi indie scene will be providing a night of fringe and outsider pop 'n' rock experimentation, featuring artists such as Ariel Pink, Marnie Stern, Times New Viking, Crystal Antlers, Now Wave DJs and Stop Making Sense DJs.

Disco music will take over at The Deaf Institute with long-time scene players, Danielle Baldelli and James Holroyd.

As the big Futuresonic closing party, and Furturesonic 2010 opening party, Club Underground will be welcoming none other than dub step’s main man, Kode 9, along with wonky rave phenomena Zomby and bass fusioneer Actress.
