Liverpool's GIT Award has announced the winner of it's inaugural One to Watch prize ahead of the main ceremony on Friday 11th April. The award has been created for the first time this year to shed light on emerging talent, and in the shape of this year's winner, seventeen year old singer-songwriter Lapsley, they've nailed the concept brilliantly.
The breezy delivery, haunting melody and emotional resonance that underpins her music is best evidenced by the Monday EP which you can stream above, bolstered by Lapsley's voice working gently over the skipping two step rhythms, haunting electronics and gentle sonics behind her soft crooning.
In the short space of a few months she's gone from playing intimate parties in the city's Parr Street Studios to being feted by NME, BBC Radio One and many more., clocking hundreds of thousands of plays for her material on soundcloud. The excitement behind her music is already palpable and it continues the GIT awards rich history of correctly celebrating the exciting music emanating from the city.
The main event takes place on Friday 11th April in the city's Kazimier venue, with the likes of Dan Croll, Evian Christ, Forest Swords and many more clamoring to have their album crowned as the most important within Liverpool's music scene. For more info head to the GIT blog.
