Often in dance music, hitting the goldmine with a track can define careers, and more importantly in Disciples case, propel them to the forefront of everyone's attention. Their track 'They Don't Know' (catch it below) is set to drop via Parlophone on 22nd February, and will no doubt do just that.
Consisting of a formidable trio that insist on keeping their production in house, Disciples are bringing a fresh lick of paint to house music with their sunlit melodies and infectious vocals - two key ingredients when it comes to deciphering the summer dance charts.
With the threesome commanding deserved attention at present, we hooked up with Disciples for a chat ahead of their slot at SF15 on Sunday 3rd May. We got down to business discussing the drop of their chart smasher, what else we can expect from them this year and a wedge more.
'They Don't Know' drops next week, surely you must be buzzing with the reaction to it so far?
The reaction has been insane. We only intended to put it out to test the waters and it's grown into something far beyond our expectations.
The vocal is pretty integral to its success, tell us how you came up with that and who with?
Not many know that we write, produce and vocal our own music. That's our Luke Mac on 'They Don't Know'. We came up with the melody quite quickly and Luke jumped on the mic. It was one of the most naturally conceived records we've done.
The videos interesting to say the least (see it below), from what we've seen it features a crazed man, three whiskey charged youths and a shotgun, talk us through that?
The dark undertone was something we all thought would be a good contrast. "They Don't Know" is cheeky and groovy, the video is the opposite, lol. It's all about shocking the system. We wanted to stay well away from the norm.
You recently broke the Radio One A-List with it, did you ever envisage that when producing the track in the studio?
Not at all. The support from Radio 1 has been unbelievable. The R1 DJ's across the board including Annie Mac and Danny Howard have really championed this song. Massive shout out to the R1 team.
You recently hooked up with Pete Tong for the All Gone Pete Tong parties that took you as far as Mexico, how was that?
Out of this world! We stayed in Tulum in a villa on the beach. Woke up to the sound of waves and women playing volleyball! The shows were great. We played a Black Butter Party which went off! And All Gone Pete Tong at Blue Parrot in Playa Del Carmen. That was the perfect way to end a great trip.
Where do you plan to go next, do you have any more productions in the pipeline?
We're heading to WMC in Miami at the end of March, and then we head over to Snowbombing in Austria. We're constantly working on new bits, but being the perfectionist we are, no one will hear it till we're all happy.
You're playing at Spring Fest in May, are you looking forward to it and what are you planning on bringing to the festival scene this year?
The festival scene is something we've been excited for. We're really excited to play Spring Fest. We love the atmosphere and the live nature of festivals in general. We feel we belong here. But we can't give any of our show away, you'll have to come and see us.
With the summer months upon us we want to know what your ultimate summer shindig would be, where would you host it and who would you play alongside?
Most would probably say somewhere exotic but we're really feeling the vibe of England in the summer. Our festival season is one of the best. I'd like us to host our own tent at SW4 and play alongside Martinez Brothers, Oliver Dollar, Pete Tong of course.
Can't get enough of them at the moment? Bag your tickets for SF15 (Spring Fest) here.
