It's been 40 years since musicians such as The Clash, the Sex Pistols and Sham 69 united against discriminatory attitudes against people's racial origin, creating a movement known as Rock against racism. This summer, the entire ethos behind the movement returns, coming to Glasgow for a bank holiday celebration of Govanhill's cultural and ethnically diverse community.
Govanhill Against Racism takes place between Saturday 26th August - Monday 28th August, promoting unity and togetherness through a free street party on the opening day with a colourful parade celebrating Glasgow's many cultures right from Govanhill to Queens Park.
First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, whose constituency Glasgow Southside is where Govanhill is, will open the event, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also speaking. On the Sunday and Monday of the festival, The Govanhill Against Racism line up will soundtrack proceedings with big name acts including reggae icons Aswad, as well as UK roots outfits Black Roots and Misty In Roots.
On the bill for bank holiday Monday is one of the UK's finest beatboxing talents Bigg Taj, as well as notorious, genre traversing collective Colonel Mustard and the Dijon 5 and Black Grape, who release new album Pop Voodoo this summer, their first in 20 years.
