We’re big fans of our customers here at Skiddle, who as well as keeping us all in a job have proven their generosity year after year to a number of causes. Through our checkout donation schemes you’ve helped raise thousands of pounds for a number of worthwhile charities – most recently generating over £14k for Macmillan Cancer Research.
With each ticket purchase made you’re given the opportunity to add a donation, with every penny of it going direct to charity. We recently asked people on our Facebook page who the next beneficiary of this scheme should be, and the resounding choice was Anthony Nolan, the charity who find stem cell and bone marrow donors for people with life threatening blood cancers.
Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer, and in many instances the only option these people have to live is a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. Anthony Nolan is the only UK charity that can find a transplant donor for these patients.
Anthony Nolan also helps the people diagnosed with blood cancers and their families cope with the processes, which can take months, and even years, of management and recovery before they are ready to return to normal life. Many people will be dealing with this life debilitating news over Christmas, and your money helps them all.
We’d also encourage you to think about joining the Anthony Nolan register and one day you could play a pivotal role in saving someone’s life. Thousands of people rely on these harvests of stem cells and bone marrow each year, with people of ethnic minorities are particularly at risk due to a small pool of potential donors.
Becoming a donor is one of the most rewarding things anyone can do - if you’re aged between 16 and 30 you can sign up to the register here.
