Hidden x Lo-Fi present tINI review

Grace Price-Salisbury took a trip to Manchester's Hidden to catch a set from tINI.

For quite a while now, Manchester has been dominated by select groups of events and venues, but a space which has only just celebrated its first birthday has shaken the scene with weekly events and a jaw-dropping multi-story set up which sits on the industrial edge of Salford and Manchester.

When entering Hidden for its Lo-Fi collab, the space looked pretty much untouched from its original state apart from some lighting and colourful graffiti. Here, all focus was on the music as tINI brought her sounds to Hidden Manchester on Friday night, with the German native returning to perform an extended three hour set.

Championing the Desolat label, her blend of house and techno is always of the deep and funky variety. With her characteristic blonde curls and a baggy t-shirt, tINI smiled as she bobbed about behind the decks whilst intensely concentrating on digging for the right tracks, clearly happy to be back at Hidden.

The crowd was just as tINI once described how she liked it - small, friendly, and ready to dance to an onslaught of tracks that no one in at the venue could have anticipated. As the crowd moved freely throughout the dancefloor, finding randoms at each turn to vibe with, the sheer bliss of the venue was overwhelmed by her effortless transitions. Watching her work, it seemed as if she could mix a set in her sleep.

Her sound provided an initial spark that alerted the ears of revellers walking through the doors, prompting them with an immediate urge to rock out some of the most incredible body grooves on the dancefloor. From jackin’ house to darker-edged tech house, the crowd danced enthusiastically to it all. Throughout the bass-driven set, there were even inflections of jazz, strings, piano and vocals that even had Shazam stumped.

Of the few we did manage to catch, tracks that proved to be particularly monstrous included Nima Gorji’s ‘Visions’ and DJ Qu’s ‘Times Like This’, proving once again tINI’S intelligent selection skills.

Hats off to tINI, your dedication to your craft since the age of seven has paid off wonderfully, in a venue which at times appeared to have been created just for an artist like her.
