Manchester-based brands, Hikerdelic and Manchester Union Brewery have recently joined forces to produce a very special and unique alcoholic beverage, celebrating walking communities around the UK and hiking culture.

Taking its inspiration from a no-nonsense subculture supported by those who make up the aforementioned communities, 'Good Old Raisins & Peanuts', more commonly referred to as 'GORP', the beer contains the taste of raisins blended with the crisp flavour of a pilsner instead of peanuts, providing the perfect post-hike refreshment upon your return from the hills, trails, fells or mountains in your locality.

For those unaware of either brand involved in bringing this rambler-friendly brew to life, let us shed a little light...

Manchester Union Brewery is the first and only dedicated craft lager brewery located in Manchester. Traditional Lager brewing techniques found and used across Central Europe are married with more modern local methods in the Ardwick-based brewery, to concoct a variety of truly refreshing and unique legacy beers - available on draught in over 40 outlets around Greater Manchester.

Hikerdelic, on the other hand, is a renowned Northern clothing brand. Combining a love for the outdoors with high-quality, well-designed garments, made to withstand the elements and the fashionable Manchester streets, their motto couldn't be more fitting - 'Where the peak meets the precinct', unifying the two worlds. Channelling the spirit of Colorado in the 60s, it crosses the streams with late 80s Acid House and finds the perfect position between indoor shopping centres and outdoor pursuits, between outdoor raves and underground caves.

Talking of the link-up, Mark Smith of Hikerdelic said:

"After the last couple of years, the importance of real-life things has definitely grown. With social media, we can interact with our followers but a real product enjoyed in real life can’t really be beaten. Working with Jamie and Will (The founders of Manchester Union Brewery) has been great and we’re looking forward to getting something a little different to our clothing out there.”

Commandeering Northern Quarter bar, Common this Wednesday (7th September), both Hikerdelic and Manchester Union Brewery will present the launch of their collaborative 'GORP' Lager, giving the first 50 people through the door with a ticket from Skiddle a free can of the brand-new tipple plus a delicious slice of Nell’s pizza. There'll also be a range of new merchandise on show, celebrating the joint effort of the two brands - including t-shirts, mugs and pin badges, all of which will be on show at the launch party.

Should you miss the launch, this limited edition lager and merchandise will be available to buy from the Manchester Union Brewery web shop on Thursday 8th September at 11 am (www.manchesterunionbrewery.com).
