Andrea Oliva is synonymous with ANTS and Ibiza itself, his pivotal role at Ushuaïa Ibiza for the brand has cemented his reputation even further as one of the underground's true dons.
ANTS, which became a staple of Ibiza's nightlife back in 2013, was created in-house by the iconic outdoor club in Playa d'en Bossa and has become a go-to party for island newbies and White Isle veterans.
Switzerland native Andrea Oliva topped the Beatport charts with his remix of 'Rise Of Angels' in the same year that ANTS launched, it was a track which became one of Cadenza's biggest selling records to date and the tune of the summer for the event.
His sets at ANTS are consistently brilliant, and he has become invaluable as a regular DJ whilst also getting involved with the creative and musical direction of the events - an easy task because he identifies completely with the club night's philosophy.
We caught up with the man himself ahead of more of his Ibiza dates and ANTS at The Warehouse Project and to find out what he loves about the island.
Where do you stay on the island when you're there and why?
I have a nice little apartment so that I can stay as much as possible on the island during the season.
What makes Ibiza so special?
It's a magical place - I love spending time with my friends hanging out at parties, beaches, restaurants, bars. Of course its amazing to be able to play my music there too.
Where are your favourite places to eat?
Some of my friends just opened a restaurant on the port with fantastic Sicilian speciality dishes - I am a resident guest there!
And the best places to go out?
As I said before, it's a mix of everything. If I have a day off I spend it for sure at the beach. Experimental Beach is one of my favourite places.
Who do you think will be the star of the season this year?
There are so many great artists playing shows on the island - but the big stars for me are the brands, like ANTS, Circoloco, elrow, Music On...
Where is the best place to watch the sun set and rise on the island?
Cafe del Mar and Mambo without a doubt.
For someone about to come to Ibiza for the first time, what are the three things they must do before their time is out?
Have a beach day at Cala Comte or Experimental Beach or visit Es Vedra, come to see us at ANTS and try out one of the little restaurants on Dalt Vila and enjoy the view from up there.
What’s the island's greatest hidden secret?
Take a boat trip to Formentera and you'll find a lot of hidden beaches, it's magic.
What is your fondest memory of your time spent on the island?
I played the sunset terrace at Space in 2005, that was the first time I was in Ibiza and I just remember how amazed I was by everything. Also having my parents here one night when I played ANTS - they´d never seen me play before and that was a special moment for me.
And finally, what one bit of advice would you give someone hitting Ibiza for the first time?
Rent a car and have some road trips on the island. Put the stereo on and turn it up.
