Ibiza Insider's Guide: Patrick Topping

Patrick Topping gives us the low down on Ibiza ahead of the upcoming season.

Last updated: 25th May 2016

Patrick Topping is an Ibiza regular. Over the past few years he's played at Radio 1's showcase at Ushuaia and spent nights soundtracking Paradise at DC10, Kaluki at Space and Cocoon at Amnesia, to name just a few key gigs.

With releases on Hot Creations, VIVa Music, Circus Recordings and Defected to his name, Topping is no stranger to the top of Beatport charts. Most notably his track 'Forget' became one of the most defining records of the Ibiza season 2014.

With plenty of island experience under his belt, we thought that the Newcastle native would be the perfect person to give us some insider's opinions on the best places to eat and party, plus his tips for making the most out of your time on the party capital of the world.

Where do you stay on the island when you're there and why?

I usually stay in Ibiza Town towards Talamanca, usually in Hotel Argo. It's nice and not too pricey. It’s round the back of Ocean Drive.

What makes Ibiza so special?

The music scene, nothing competes with it.

Where are your favourite places to eat?

Passion at the marina, I try and go every trip.

And the best places to go out?

Paradise at DC10. If you're feeling lively then I'd definitely recommend heading to Circo Loco at DC10 and then onto Cocoon afterwards.

Where is the best place to watch the sun set and rise on the island?

Cafe Mambo in San Antonio.

For someone about to come to Ibiza for the first time, what are the three things they must do before their time is out?

1) Sun bed (Geordie style)

2) Prepare yourself, make a plan, and make the most of it

3) Get your tickets in advance as it will end up a lot cheaper

What’s the island's greatest hidden secret?

Something I didn't know from when I first went was that all the villas around the island have these daft afterparties with all the promoters, staff, managers etc. Anyone who gets an invite gets to see that secret side...

What is your fondest memory of your time spent on the island?

The first time I went was memorable because that was when I really fell with house music in love and decided I wanted to be a DJ.

Summer 2014 was a special one too, my career had taken off about a year before that and all my friends got a villa. It was a pretty good one.

And finally, what one bit of advice would you give someone hitting Ibiza for the first time?

Don’t get carried away with after parties and miss the club nights, go to bed and actually go to clubs. Don’t just get wrecked in the hotel. Don't be afraid to actually call it a day!
