Martin Garrix is one of electronic music's youngest superstars. Having only just turned 20 years old, the Dutch DJ and producer has achieved success beyond his years, and rightfully so.

Garrix was picked up by Spinnin’ Records and subsequently backed by Scooter Braun, a winning combination if you ever saw one. He's previously won the MTV European Music Award for Best Electronic Act and currently holds the number three position in the DJ Mag Top 100.

The starlet has reached number one in the UK charts and has hit double platinum status in the US, with the hit track 'Animals' garnering more than 100 million streams on Spotify and over half a billion views on YouTube.

He's no stranger to massive international events, having played at Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Amsterdam Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival and now he's taking over Ushuaia for his summer residency. Ahead of that we asked to him about the island so we could get some inside tips.

Where do you stay on the island when you're there and why?

Last year I rented a house with my family for the summer somewhere in the countryside, it was nice and quiet. This year I will probably stay at the Hard Rock Hotel.

What makes Ibiza so special?

In the summer it’s the place to be for DJs, dance music has been alive there for so many years already. It’s an island with a great musical history, the people are nice, the vibe is always good. You can party every day or take it easy and relax at one of the beautiful beaches.

For me it’s also the memories that make Ibiza so special. Last year when I rented the house and had all my friends and family coming over, we had a great time. I also played my first international show here four years ago in Privilege. And obviously, having my Ushuaia residency is something really special for me!

Where are your favorite places to eat?

There are too many great restaurants in Ibiza, the island offers great seafood, salads and most importantly, great burgers.

And the best places to go out?

This summer you can find me every Friday in July and August at Ushuaïa. You should all come and check it out, really excited to be back on the island again for the whole summer. This place is my second home.

Next to that DC10 is one of my favorite places to go to. The music is completely different to what I play, but I love it. The people are really nice there, no one bothers you. I can go there as a visitor and people won’t recognise me, or if they do, they are just happy for me that I have a day off.

Where is the best place to watch the sun set and rise on the island?

All the beaches are amazing. A few years back I watched the sunset sitting from Café Del Mar, where they adjusted the music to the sunset. It was actually pretty cool, I should probably check it out again this summer.

For someone about to come to Ibiza for the first time, what are the three things they must do before their time is out?

Visit at least one club, go to one of the beautiful beaches and rent a scooter to explore the island.

What’s the island's greatest hidden secret?

Not sure if it's a hidden secret, but I love La Paloma. It's such a great place to eat.

What is your fondest memory of your time spent on the island?

The time that I’ve spent with my friends and family and the great shows I’ve played there.

And finally, what one bit of advice would you give someone hitting Ibiza for the first time?

Just determine for yourself what you want to do and see from the island but also leave some time open to do spontaneous things because Ibiza is perfect for that, especially if you feel like partying. The best DJs will probably be playing around the corner of your hotel.
