Ibiza Insider's Guide: Sonny Fodera

Having only released his first record a few years back, Sonny Fodera has moved at an incredibly prolific rate to rank amongst the finest representatives of the new generation of house music producers, with records on Cajual, Defected, Visionquest and Suara strengthening his reputation.

Now a regular feature of Ibiza season, the London based producer and DJ finds himself busier than ever this summer. When he's not starring at Creamfields in the UK or at Defected's inagural Croatian festival, he'll be very much based in Isla Blanca, with regular sets at Sankeys Ibiza's Redlight/Shelter night throughout August and September.

And so naturally, he seemed like the ideal chap to get us behind the scenes on everyone's favourite isle of hedonism. Listen to his Summer Promo mix below for a taste of that Ibiza magic.

Where do you stay on the island when you're there and why?

This year I have been staying in Talamanca, I took a little holiday also in Santa Eularia which was amazing I really like that side of the island it’s really chill and nice to check out to get away from the craziness. I have lived in Ibiza for two seasons, my favourite areas are Formentera, Cala Basa, Es Vedra, Salinas Beach and Santa Eularia.

What makes Ibiza so special?

The beaches and the vibe. I love the fact that you can go and have a crazy night partying but then go to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world the next day. Everytime I get to the island there is energy, I can’t really explain it but it is truly something special.

Where are your favourite places to eat?

La Bodega in the old town, Passion Café in Talamanca, Guarna at Salinas beach, and this tapas spot in San Antonio... I forget the name but it's on the way to the bay in the back streets. Also Atzaro in Santa Eularia is really nice too. I know this sounds like a strange suggestion but Kathmandu in Santa Eularia is probably the best Indian food I have ever had hands down.

And the best places to go out?

Sankeys of course! I think it has one of the best sound systems on the island. I also love going to Atazaro Beach Club in Santa Eularia for chill, Café Mambo on Sunset Strip in San Antonio for banging sunsets. Amnesia and Space are two of my favourite clubs for sure.

Where is the best place to watch the sun set and rise on the island?

I think the best spot for sunset is hands down looking over Es Vedra. The best place for sunrise is Playa D'en Bossa after a night out. Also Babylon Beach has amazing moon rises, which I really recommend you check out.

For someone about to come to Ibiza for the first time, what are the three things they must do before their time is out?

Try and go to Formentera and check out some of the beaches there. Then go to La Bodega for some tapas near the Ibiza Castle followed by Café Mambo for sunset.

What’s the island's greatest hidden secret?

Cala Conta. It’s not really a secret but if you find the time to go there you will not be disappointed.

And finally, what one bit of advice would you give someone hitting Ibiza for the first time?

Be safe, look out for your friends and party hard.
