Independent Venue Week will be taking place from January 30th. An annual celebration of all things to do with independent venues, it reminds us of why these places are key to local culture. Ahead of IVW 2023, we thought we'd take a look at some of the best music venues from across the country and this time around we're focussing on London's Omeara.

Tucked away just a short walk away from London Bridge station, you'll find Omeara located under the railway arches. Once inside you'll find a venue space that has a perfect mixture between old and new. The bar space is cosy and neatly decorated whilst the event space itself looks as though it's an old Victorian ballroom.

Opened in 2016, it is the predecessor and sister venue of Lafayette in Kings Cross. One of the best small venues in the city the space can hold up to 350 people for gigs and club nights. In the time since its opening, it has become known for hosting an eclectic mix of events from indie gigs to DJs spinning a wide range of tunes.

It will be hosting some of the gigs that are a part of this year's War Child line-up in association with the Brit Awards. Both Bob Vylan and Cavetown will be performing. It is the perfect place for new independent musicians to strut themselves and if you look at their upcoming programme for 2023 you'll see an enviable amount of talent.

From Etta Marcus to Floweroflove and Stone, their calendar will have you spoilt for choice. The South London Soul Train will be making regular appearances at Omeara throughout the year where you can catch some of the most intriguing artists from the funk and soul realms.

Club nights are just as important to Omeara as the gigs and they regularly host nights dedicated to house and techno, Hip-Hop, soul and more. The intimacy of the space is what makes people come back for more and there's no surprise that the venue is well-loved by those who visit.

When it comes to the best venues in London the competition is fierce but spaces like Omeara are a crucial part of the gig and club circuit. London wouldn't be the same without it, so if you see an event that you want to catch here then don't hesitate to get something booked. You can see everything that's coming up at Omeara here.
