Occupying a leading role in Preston's music scene, The Ferret is the city's most popular grassroots live music venue. Playing a vital part in the underground scene, the venue provides a stop for emerging bands and artists to play in the city and runs over 200 gigs a year. This Independent Venue Week they are continuing such tradition with six massive gigs, including one IVW All Dayer.

Opening its doors in 2006 The Ferret has played host to many a band that has gone on to massive things, whether that be IDLES, Working Mens Club, Frightened Rabbit, Ed Sheeran, Alt-JCatfish and the Bottlemen, The Orielles, or Bob Vylan. Whilst at the same time providing a space for classic British bands to bring their iconic music to the Lancastrian masses; with bands like A Certain Ratio and Buzzcocks

This Independent Venue Week, The Ferret are putting on gigs almost every day! With bands like Ist Ist, Skinny Living, Baba Ali, and more heading to Preston to perform. Whilst some of these events have sold out, you can head to the bottom of this page to grab tickets to the IVW events with tickets still available.

The Ferret is no stranger to the current problems grassroots venues across the country are facing. Back in 2022, the owners of the building in which The Ferret, Preston, is housed announced they were selling the building; potentially letting the place fall into the hands of a developer and putting The Ferret at serious risk of closure.

Yet, thanks to the endeavours of The Ferret, the Music Venue Trust (who secured an incredible £500k of funding), Preston Council, and the live music community and scene as a whole; The Ferret were able to purchase the building and secure its future for the long foreseeable. Shining a light on what the future could and should be for grassroots venues.

The Ferrets story champions everything Independent Venue Week is about and instils true belief in just how much the money and awareness raised during the time can go into helping the venues that take part, and the wider scene as a whole.

So, be a part of the solution, and see some absolutely wicked live music whilst you're at it, by grabbing tickets to one of The Ferret events for IVW in the boxes below!
