Jasmine Phull chats to the 23 year old musical maestro about blogs, side projects, and getting his hair cut by his mum.
The busiest people on New Years Eve have got to be the hands behind the decks. For the past four years French mix-master Brodinski has controlled those hands. Borrowing the name from his Grandmother, this 23-year-old is the one creating the most noise. Starting at the age of 15, it wasn’t hard for Louis B to juggle between school and music. It was easy - he just chose the latter. Along with hometown friend and DJ Yuksek, les mecs français have been successfully flying solo while working on joint project The Krays. Attributing his love of music to his early passion for skate-boarding, Brodinski’s musical influences range from Hip Hop, through to Trip Hop, Punk and eventually Techno. The self-confessed blog junkie is a musical maestro on the rise and master behind the decks, and still gets his mum to chop his locks. Bless.
In one sentence describe what you do in one day.
Brush my teeth, check the internet, checking my gigs for the weekend, work a little bit, eat a lot and do some sport then sleep!
You’re long-time friends with fellow producer DJ Yuksek? How did you first meet?
We met in a bar in our hometown, Reims. I will remember this day my whole life, he was DJing this track from P. Diddy and Felix Da Housecat!
You’ve said you’re scared to produce music alone? What did you mean by that?
I'm just scared to being alone in the studio, I think it's just not my thing. I really love to be with somebody; exchanging ideas, laughing, doing the kind of ‘one shot track’ in a day!
Tell us a bit about your new project The Krays.
It's not really new, but it's just something Yuksek and I really loved, so we decide to release it!
You started creating music when you were 15. You’ve said you found music through skating. Explain that link for you.
Skaters were and are always listening to good music. Because of the videos I started to listen to lots of different kinds of music; Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Rap, Rock Punk and then techno came after all of that!
Was it hard to juggle school and music?
Not really, look at me - I choose music after all!
Where are you currently based?
Paris now! Since 10 days. A big change for me!
When do you get your best work done? Morning, afternoon or night?
Night for mixes and mix-tapes, in the day: in the studio for tracks! Morning... never!
Three of your favourite music blogs:

Three up-and-coming artists you’re watching:
NguzuNguzu
Savage Skulls
Canblaster
What do you prefer: Creating your own music or remixing other artist’s tracks? Why?
I love both because it's so different, I’m doing more remixes than production but both are so different. I just do what's in my mind when I'm in studio.
New Year's Eve is a busy night for DJs. Have you had one off in the past four years?
Nope... but it's never the best party when you're with your friends, because everybody wants to have a good time, and it's never really cool!
Best city to play?
Brussels, Manchester, Miami, Toronto, Paris.
What’s the most you’ve paid for a haircut?
My Mum cut my hair and she's certainly not a hairdresser.
Next song you’d love to remix?
Beach house - 'Zebra' or Flying Lotus - 'Do the Astral Plane'.
Lastly, what do you eat for breakfast?
1 egg in a cup of water, French Bread, some milk and a yoghurt.
