David Glass: "There will definitely be more from me"

It’s got a lot to answer for has Circus. Now triumphantly in its eleventh year the Liverpool borne clubnight has since gone onto ink residencies in New York, London and now Ibiza, with a series of events that have raided the great and the good of the dance music fraternity since its creation back in 2002.

It’s also spawned a record label, which much like the clubnight itself started humbly as a place for Yousef’s music and has since gone onto mimic the same formula of the club, with a release schedule that works by pitting established heavy hitters such as DJ Sneak and Derrick Carter against new blood such as Yost Koen and Acid Mondays.

It’s one of the latter that shows how the whole thing has come full circle, in the shape of David Glass. A producer who fell in love with house music on the actual dancefloor of Circus, he’s since gone onto become one of the Liverpool based members of the new blood of the record label and the clubnight, releasing his Lost EP to great acclaim earlier this year and seamlessly stepped up to a number of shows at The Camp and Furnace for the club.

Ahead of him guesting at Uber’s huge showcase at Merienda Court in Carlisle on May Bank Holiday weekend alongside Joris Voorn and DJ Sneak, Jess Heaton caught up with him to get his feelings on Circus, playing Uber and feeling the love with his fellow DJs.

You were on the line up for the Circus Easter Party last weekend, how did that go down?

It was brilliant, such a good gig. I was honoured to be included on such a good line up and the atmosphere throughout was fantastic. I went really well, probably the most fun I’ve had during a set!

You played under Circus Recordings name alongside Acid Mondays and Makes No Sense, have you met either of those guys before? There was a nice bromance behind the decks from what we could see.

Haha, I’ve knew the Makes No Sense lads a while but only recently met Acid Mondays! They were all quality on Easter Sunday too, and part of the reason why it was so much fun.

Your set was the last of the night for Circus Recordings between 2-4, how did you find playing the closing set?

To be honest I thought everyone would be in the main room for the last few hours, I genuinely wasn't expecting a big turnout at the end to watch me. Playing the last set was great though, loads of friends came to support me and ensured it was a lot of fun!

How do you feel being part of the Circus Recordings family?

It’s a great label to be involved with when you look at the other artists involved and the music that's being put out. It’s also great that Yousef has time for up and comers such as myself, you have to respect that. I'm actually working on my second EP for Circus at the moment too, so there will definitely be more from me and the label.

Your track ‘Lost’ was recently played on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show, how did it feel getting support from Pete and the whole of the UK?

It’s not something you expect really, but when it happened it was such an amazing feeling. I wasn’t actually listening to the show at the time, but suddenly I got loads of messages/texts telling me about it. If that wasn't enough the following week he played another track from the EP "Like A Pro", and I was so happy with that!

We noticed one your tracks ‘Tell The People’ features a Nas sample, is hip hop another influence towards the music you produce?

Yeah deffo, most my tracks have hip hop elements. I like to keep that vibe to the music I make.

We can see you’re set to play the Uber Night & Day Courtyard Party in Carlisle alongside Joris Voorn and DJ Sneak, are you excited about this event?

Yeah this is such a good booking for me, the line up is absolute quality, I can't wait for it. I’ve heard good things about the promoters and the city as well so looking forward to experiencing that for myself.

Will this be your first time playing a night and day courtyard event?

Yep, looking forward to a good day out which you don’t always get with gigs. I heard the event last year was great.

What plans do you have for the rest of the year? Any plans or new releases for the coming summer?

Yeah my new EP on my label Midnight Music is out next month, it’s called "I Wanna Know" and features Phil Weeks & Jamie Trench Remixes. Other than that I just want to keep doing what I do, making more beats and hopefully getting more bookings as a consequence.
