2012 kicks off in fine style at The Warehouse, with the Arkitekt New Year's Day party featuring Chicago legend Derrick Carter.

Jesse Rose, fresh off his recently Made For The Night mini documentary and mix compilation, brings his own skewered house sound. We caught up with Jesse for a quick chat...

How has your year been? What have been the highlights?

It's been another #bigone! Moving to Los Angeles was a bit of a highlight, the Made For The Night compilation has been getting great reactions and working with great artists such as Mansions on the Moon and Chiddy Bang on the production side has been great. Super happy with the new label Play it Down, and Zombies have just delivered their mini album for Made to Play which is pretty exciting.

How are Front Room and Made to Play different?

One's more techno, one's more house. Play it Down is like tracks to play and less chay.

How do you know who is right for each label? Is there are certain vibe to each?

It's easy for me, cause it's all about tracks I play in my set. So if I play it early it's more likely Play it Down, if I play mid set more likely Made to Play and so on.

What is it you’re looking for in new guys before you release them?

Cool dodos. I really don't have time for people who want a lot, you've got to add not subtract!

Where are you living now and how much does influence does it have on the sounds you make?

The world is an influence, when you travel 50 weeks of the year where you live is like a by-product.

Tell us about the recent compilation you put together – what was the aim with it? How did you feel doing it and looking back?

I'm happy, I had an idea, it took over a year to come to life and now it flies.

What else are you looking forward to/working on in 2012?

Finishing my album is super exciting. I'm hoping to have it complete before the New Year and the first single  arrives in January! I've also found a 19 year old rapper from Atlanta that I'm working with on the flip side to what I normally
do. And taking a few days off around mid January… well looking forward to that.

What should people expect on NYD?

Hangovers? But then you gotta drink your way through… Derrick and myself in the same club is always good vibes.

Who are you on the daily, outside of music?

A guy that pretty much works from 7am in the morning until the next morning. I love what I do and I live what I do. It's 7.52am, I'm in my hotel room in Tokyo about to be picked up to fly to South Korea, I've had four hours sleep in three days and have the biggest smile on my face. I guess the answer to your question is 'a happy man'.
