It's been a busy old year for Hamburg DJ Solomun and his Diynamic imprint. As well as being named Mixmag's DJ of the year, his Diynamic Neon club night at Sankeys Ibiza was one of the biggest Ibiza success stories of 2012 - and in a short space of time he's become one of the most in-demand DJs on the planet.

Solomun hits Sankeys for two Christmas parties on the 28th and 29th December. The first night sold out in record time and the second night is heading very quickly in the same direction - so don't hold back on getting your tickets if you want to be there.

Ahead of his arrival in Manchester, we grabbed a few moments of Solomun's time to ask him all about his whirlwind year, and find out what's in store for Diynamic.

2012 has been absolutely massive for you. As we approach the end of the year are you able to sit back and take stock of it all? Can you describe your feelings about the last 12 months?
Sometimes it’s sad that everything is happening so fast, so you don't have the time to sit back and just enjoy it all. What I can say is: I never expected this, and therefore I am just happy and thankful.

Your Diynamic Neon season at Sankeys Ibiza this year was a phenomenal success. Were you expecting that? And what do you think it is about the night that excited people so much?
How can one expect such a blast in your first season on the island? We think what people like about Neon Nights is that it offers a kind of new sound, a new flavour for the island, and that all our Diynamic family were playing their hearts every Tuesday at Sankeys during our season there. And of course the very special atmosphere of our Neon Nights too; I think this is what excited people so much.

What's the ethos of Diynamic and what do you look for when signing an artist?
It always needs a bit time before we say yes to a new artist, because Diynamic is very family-led. The same was with Adriatique, Karmon, Hunter/Game and NTFO as the new members. It happens over a period of more than one year; we invite them to our Diynamic parties or our own club in Hamburg, because the feedback from Hosh or Stimming is also very important too - the feeling about how the person is - and their personality - besides the talent.

If you could curate your ultimate club night, which artists past or present would be on the line-up?
That's a tough question. And I am very happy that I can be with my label mates so much. But I have to say, that at the 10 year birthday of Warung Beach Club it came quite close to a dream team: Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Art Department and Dub Fire all together. And just the fact that we all wrote each other emails after the party shows how intense the whole thing was for us all.

What do you hope to achieve for yourself and Diynamic in 2013? Do you think you can top 2012?
Like my old friend Notorious BIG used to say - and obviously he wasn't right with it: the sky is the limit!
