Breakbeats' hottest stars JDS mix Beatz & Bobz Vol 6!
Exeter based Functional Records recently celebrated the 40th release with a rather special release from Will White, without wanting to miss a beat the label ‘that can’ return with the latest installment of the ace DJ-Led mix series ‘Beatz & Bobz’ with a tasty mix from the purple funky monkeys themselves JDS!
Having drawn fans as diverse as Pete Tong, Laurent Garnier, Norman Cook and well, let’s not forget the entire breakbeat community JDS AKA Julian Napolitano and Darren Pearce have got the natural gift of rocking dance floors across the globe with their unique sound. Following their 1998 club hit and genuine Ibiza anthem ‘9 Ways’, a track so huge Pete Tong signed it and it narrowly missed out on being a Top 40 hit, the duo enjoyed follow ups such as ‘London Town’ and ‘Destiny Calls’ both of which enjoyed massive support, the pair took a brief sabbatical to redefine their sound and returned in 2003 with the simply mind-bending ‘Blackout’ on Rennie Pilgrem’s TCR a breaks track so pumped up you could take it to Miami, stick it on the beach and it wouldn’t look out of place. Norman ‘Fatboy’ Cook was quoted as saying ‘JDS do the best breakdowns ever’ that was the start of things to come.
Following a succession of singles and being hailed as the hottest thing since sliced bread, JDS returned to TCR with ‘Purple Funky Monkey’ a record that simply eclipsed everything in it’s path, followed by an album of the same name and a whole host of remixes JDS’s unique turbo charged sounds has enabled them to carve a niche amongst the dance scene leading them to be one of the hottest DJ and production teams on the planet and what better way to cement this than with a bad ‘ass mix album.
Featuring 14 tracks from labels such as Splank!, West, Inflight, Ultrkinetic, Labrok, Punk Funk (their own imprint) and of course Functional Records ‘Beatz & Bobz Volume 6’ is a no messing ride into breakbeat as only JDS know how.
Beatz & Bobz Volume 6 mixed by JDS is released on Mon May 22nd on Functional Records
