Over the past week Jay-Z and his producer Timbaland have been embroiled in a legal battle over the use of a 'Big Pimpin' (listen below) sample which the prosecution claimed was used without the artists permission.
Osama Fahmy, the nephew of Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi claims the pair did not have permission to use the artist's 1957 song's flute notes. Jay-Z and Timbaland testified saying that they paid EMI Music Arabia $100,00 for the use of the sample in 2001.
The judge ruled that, "Fahmy lacked standing to pursue his claim. In light of that decision, it will not be necessary to submit to the jury whether Big Pimpin' infringed Khosara Khosara."
