Joe McElderry wanted to record an upbeat song to prove he could dance.
The 19-year-old singer confesses he was never allowed to do a dance routine when he appeared on UK TV talent search 'The X Factor', where he was discovered, and admits his new single 'Ambitions' was recorded so he could perform a routine in the video.
Joe exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Well you want something everyone can dance to! I wanted a fast song. I wanted something that made people get up off their chair and dance.
"Everybody had heard me sing the ballads. I just wanted a dance routine and a fast song.
"I didn't do a dance routine on 'The X Factor'. I kept asking and I never got one. I've begged since and it's paid off."
Joe also admits he had trouble finding the right sound when he began recording the album, with no songs making him "sit up" until he heard 'Ambitions'.
He said: "We got into the studio back in April and we were recording all these songs and there was nothing really grabbing my attention. It was exciting being in the studio but we were finding these songs that were, you know, they were just good.
"Nothing was making anyone sit up. And then we heard 'Ambitions' and I loved it. It was just so catchy. I was singing it all day."
