Boomfh. I get a package through the door. What is this? I open the package and see the words "Acid House Scrapes and Capers", I get a little excited, I would be more excited but often Acid/Rave compilations just have the same staple tunes in a different order. I turn to the track listings, I see a few really good tunes and some I've never heard of. Slam! Into the CD player it goes!
Surprisingly I find I know some of the ones I thought I didn't, must be from parties and such! The ones I didn't know have obviously been picked by someone who knows there business, they are really ace! Unsurprisingly really, this has been put together by the guys from Junior Boy's Own who were around back then, doing an Acid House/Rave independent fanzine (est. 1986) and a label (est.1991). So if you don't know anything of this genre, late 80's to early 90's was where it was at and these guys were part of it! Junior Boys Records? Who? Well, just to name a couple of the big guys, The Chemical Brothers released their first single with them, and Underworld have made releases with them too.

They've only sent me the Edited Promo version, but I'll be down the shop tomorrow to buy the full version! I wasn't old enough to be there, so I'll stick this CD on and dance round my gaff and root through the local record shop bargain bins, sniffing the 12" singles. They sent me some exerts of the book they are releasing too, which is a complete collection of the fanzines they put out from 1986-1992. This makes the book a must have for anyone who was there or is trying to salvage their original dog-eared copies with sticky tape from many years ago. So if you like Happy Pianos/Organs, Drum Machines, Wicked Procussion and Londoners with a Manchester swagger, this will up your street! For me, highlights of The CD, Happy Mondays - Hallelujah (Club mix)/Underworld - Born Slippy (NUXX) . Unexpected Highlights, Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart - Bomba (Miles Away Mix)/Outrage - That Piano Track. These guys know it. Nice one fellas!
