Kano covers The Streets' 'Has it Come to this'

Although sound in concept, BBC Radio One's live studio performances are a mixed bag. For every majestic Girls Aloud cover from Arctic Monkeys there's an anodyne pop act defiling a classic, but that doesn't make the occasional monster all the better for it.

Charlie Sloth's Fire in the Booth is one area that usually delivers, but the latest smash from Kano comes instead from Huw Stephens' Piano Sessions rather than the larger than life hip hop and grime starlet - watch him cove The Streets' timeless 'Has it Come to this' above.

What makes the performance so memorable is the context, Mike Skinner's lyrical endeavours way back in 2002 with Original Pirate Material helped pave the way for grime as we know it, Dizzee Rascal's breakout release Boy in Da Corner following a year later.

Kano references Skinner's wordplay without copying it, re-imagining his train line route to his own ends and the great reference dropping of "blinded by the lights, taking it to dizzee new heights". Basking in grime's glory isn't going to end any time soon.
