For the past 15 years, Kelis has been an unmistakable presence on popular music. The R&B chanteuse, who first strode into the limelight singing the hook on ODB's party anthem 'Got your Money' and her angst driven debut single 'Caught Out There' in 1999, has been one of the most talked about and revered figures in twenty first century soul music.
Having made her name with production demi-gods The Neptunes, she's since hooked up with hip-hop troubadours Andre 3000 and Cee-Lo Green, duetted with Enrique Eglesias and Bjork, and made pulsating electronic music with the likes of Calvin Harris, Boys Noize and Diplo - never once standing still over her career.
Her 2003 album Tasty, boasting the singles 'Milkshake' and 'Trick Me', remains her best selling LP but her ability to mutate and transform continues with the recent release of Food (stream above on Spotify) on British hip hop label Ninja Tune, a nod to her other calling in life; she is a fully certified chef.
She'll play The Institute on Friday 27th June in Birmingham, with tickets at £16.50. Head here for your Kelis tickets.
