Held in a family run farm that finds itself situated between two forests, few festivals can boast a such a stunning location as Knockengorroch World Ceilidh. Heralding a welcome a return to nature with its rural setting and stunning natural beauty - once you've arrived inside the festival site, you are free to wander, roaming the hills or swimming in the river that runs through the locale. Few festivals offer this much in the way of escaping it all and losing yourself in exquisite Scottish countryside.
2014's edition comes on the back of a busier than ever 2013, which saw Knockengorroch World Ceilidh's biggest crowd yet converge from far and wide to the Kirkudbrightshire countryside. Apart from a staggering atmosphere, that is both fun filled and family friendly, Knockengorroch's World Ceilidh also attracts an impressive line up of artists showcasing some of the finest music from around the globe. 2013 saw the likes of Congo Natty, Dizraeli and The Small Gods, The John Langan Band and Mungo's Hifi grace the festival, playing across its four musical areas. Up and coming talent is also showcased heavily, with emphasis leaning towards folk and world music, in keeping with the feel of the whole aesthetic of Knockengorroch World Ceilidh.
The usual large festival fair of rank toilets, overflowing litter, ignorant punters and general aggro is entirely non existent at Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, which has taken a wholly different approach to festival throwing, one that is both refreshing and a joy to be a part of. Kids are looked after with a wealth of activities to keep them entertained throughout the day, from hulahooping to workshops, arts crafts and fire shows, whilst the parents can enjoy a huge selection of locally sourced ales, warm up in a sauna, chill out in a hot tub, or get involved in some heritage and environmental activities.
Said to be located on an ancient village site, the annual re population of Knockengorroch opens up a gateway to another way of living, an experience that is hard to describe but so easy to enjoy. Full of personality and good vibes, festivals don't come more freeing, relaxing and enjoyable than Knockengorroch's World Ceilidh.
