Following the tragic news of the Tribe Called Quest rapper's death a few weeks back, his family have set about releasing some of the unreleased music Phife was working on leading up to his passing - keeping his legacy very much alive.
The first of a forthcoming run of releases is the sublime 'Nutshell' - a track made in collaboration with another sadly departed legend - J Dilla. As expected the beat is fabulous with jazzy guitar licks on top of breakneck scratching and woozy loops, and Phife's legendary lyrical dexterity is in prime form - it really is a beast of a track.
The video also features one line testimonials from Jungle Brothers' Mike Gee, De La Soul's Posdnuos, A Tribe Called Quest's Jarobi White and more - summing up the legend of the five foot fighter.
50% of the proceeds from the sale of 'Nutshell' will go to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation.
