Live Review: Miles Kane @ Manchester Academy 3

Swooning on to the stage like he's just fallen off a film set in 1967, Miles Kane is the very embodiment of what (if you grew up in the Northwest of England) your Mother would refer to as a 'Right Bobby Dazzler'. The kind of boy your brother has words with before the lad's even so much as looked in your direction.

The slick, black, attire that he manages to make look tailor made, (and may well be; he's sporting his favourite designer Adrien Sauvage) clings to his chest under the instant heat of the spotlight - bar the open collar which allows just enough of his necklace to glimmer through - and  sets an apt scene for tonight's show.

His face beaming with those big, brown eyes and rebel smile, Kane's set consists of much more than vintage innuendo. The one-time Rascal and part Shadow Puppet has come into his own with his debut solo material, taken from album Colour Of the Trap.

He's matured musically while becoming more confident as a cheeky, attention-demanding frontman. Perhaps a necessary element after venturing out from the (albeit equal) grip of Alex Turner, as his trusty sidekick. The Scorsese-inspired 'Come Closer' is a stand-out track early on, consuming everything from tip-toeing bass lines to big, hook-riden harmonies.

'Telepathy', the song written for friends who just know the situation without a conversation needing to take place (can boys do that too?), comes out all strings blazing, helped along by guitarist Eugene McGuinness.

The slower, 'Counting Down The Days', is an indie anthem for the classic rock lovers and the bassy chirps of Beatles' cover 'Hey Bulldog' receives a warm applause. "If you feel lonely/You can talk to me," cries Kane, somehow looking at every women in the room in equal measure.

Embodying more than Lennon's signature glasses look, 'Rearrange' depicts a mind-altering love which corrupts your head for the better. Finally, the end is imminent when rock tease-till-you-erupt track 'Inhaler' blasts out over the PA. Kane looks like he's about to combust with energy.

Another sold-out gig, another victory for the Liverpudlian Lothaire. There's probably not an original icon who could deliver it better.
