Perhaps the highlight of Liverpool's event calendar comes in the shape of Liverpool Sound City. Since establishing itself in 2008, the year Liverpool was crowned capital of culture, Liverpool Sound City has gone on to grow exponentially, drawing critical plaudits and an ever increasing fan base for its three full days of art, music and film. This morning, the Merseyside festival revealed yet more diverse acts to its ever growing line up.

Mercury Award nominated electronica composer Jon Hopkins sits at the top of the bill. Having enjoyed a blistering 2013, Jon Hopkins 'Immunity' album became one of the runaway success stories of the year. His abstract, vaguely dancefloor outing struck a chord with its uncompromising take on modern classical hidden beneath a rave ready facade. His live sets are as beguiling as his recorded output, making him an exciting prospect for Liverpool's premier music festival.

Elsewhere, LA born Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr gets in on the action, as does Queens, New York based hip hop innovator Action Bronson, and fellow New Yorkers The Hold Steady. Doves bassist and vocalist Jimi Goodwin is another of the discerning choices for this year's festivities, as are grunge two piece Drenge, and Sepultura's world renowned drumming maverick Iggor Cavalera under his Mixhell guise and band mates Laima Leyton and Max Blum.

With loads more announced, Liverpool Sound City looks to be yet again living up to its reputation as one of the finest inner city festivals in the country. Head here for your Liverpool Sound City tickets, and check out the full Liverpool Sound City line up here.
