Looking back: Skiddle's pick of 2012

Festivals, club nights, awards shows, Ibiza... it's been a busy old 2012 for the Skiddle team. Here we look back at the year that was and let you in on a few of our personal highlights.

"My highlight of 2012 would have to be, for the second year running actually, Global Gathering. No other weekend festival can boast such a diverse, accomplished, and downright huge line-up of truly incredible acts. Be it the marvel of Armin Van Buuren in the huge State Of Trance tent, going crazy to the bass of Afrojack on the main stage, late night hypnotic House from Maya Jane Coles, or the more the subtle disco-indie-pop of live band Friendly Fires, there's something special for all music fans. A tight but well considered layout, reasonable prices, and of course the glorious hot sunny weather - the icing on the cake. Definitely still my favourite dance festival. Bring on Global Gathering 2013!"
Chris, Account Manager

"Hmm, tough one as there have been so many amazing events this year. However, personal highlights for me had to be the IMS finale with Carl Coz at Dalt Villa in Ibiza, and Kendal Calling. The Carl Cox night was just mega - seeing him kick off his set with Blue Monday in an open air medieval fort as the sunset turned the sky pink behind him… just wow. And then over on less sun-soaked but no less cheerful shores, Kendal Calling was once again one of the highlights of festival season. I've been going to this lovely little event for years and it remains one of my favourite festivals. It's the perfect size, the line-up's eclectic enough to attract a really friendly, varied crowd, and the location's just beautiful. It goes without saying I'll be there in 2013!"

"For me it has to be the return of The Warehouse Project and its move to the new venue in Trafford Park. I managed to get to a few nights this season (Richie Hawtin and Carl Cox, Cocoon, T.E.E.D and Laurent Garnier were particular highlights) but every time I returned to the venue the sheer overwhelming size of it all hit me like a ton of bricks. It's credit to the innovative and careful line-up programming by the WHP team that they managed to fill out such a huge venue week in, week out. I can't wait for next year already."

"A highlight for me would be taking my little boy to his first music festival. Taking a four year old up to the Wickerman Festival is certainly a different experience to what I'm used to. There was no raving to 4am this year!  He (well, all of us) enjoyed the children's circus workshops and entertainers as well as checking out the acoustic tents which we haven't really bothered with before. To top it off, seeing the amazement in his eyes at the Wickerman burning and fireworks on the Saturday night was brilliant. He's even more excited than we are about returning next year."

Wickerman Festival

"Skiddle at IMS in Ibiza was my highlight. Coming home was my lowlight. Taking the Skiddle team to Ibiza to host a party there was brilliant. Not only did we have Sonny Wharton and The Japanese Popstars playing, but Carl Cox also popped in to see what Skiddle was up to!"
Jamie , Marketing Manager

"A highlight for me was winning the Online Business of The Year at the Red Rose Awards and standing on stage whilst Jamie froze at the microphone and decided to shout across the Winter Garden's Grand Ballroom, in front of 1,000 of Lancsashire's elite business community, the word 'SHABBA!' "
