It's an incredible testament to a festival's reputation when it can almost entirely sell out before even a single act is announced, but such is the reverence of Ullapool's cultural centrepiece Loopallu, which returns from September 26th - 27th.
Situated in in a remote village on the west coast of Scotland, 60 miles from the nearest town, you've got to agree that on paper the success this festival enjoys could not have been foreseen. However, the friendly, laid back and intimate festival has in its career hosted impressive line ups including appearances form the likes of Mumford & Sons, Codeine Velvet Club, Paulo Nutini, Jake Bugg, The Buzzcocks, The Undertones, Idlewild and The Magic Numbers.
Public Service Broadcasting step up as the first revelation for 2014's installment, with their celebrated singular sounds all present and correct.
They've been regulars on the festival circuit for a number of years now, with crowds across the country lapping up their heady concoction of guitars, banjos, big drums and soaring string sections offset with samples from old public information films, as they continue on their crusade to 'teach the lessons of the past through the music of the future'. Not only is the idea original, its execution is absolutely spot on. See some of that in their live set for KEXP above.
Elsewhere, the festival has also added Britpop heroes Shed Seven, Irish punk veterans The Undertones, an exclusive acoustic and unplugged show from gospel and delta blues mavericks Alabama 3. Other highlights include NME favourties Neon Waltz, Aussie singer songwriter Kim Churchill, Scottish indie heads Vigo Thieves, and Mark Radcliffe's new band The Foes. Head here for the full Loopallu line up.
A lot more is yet to be revealed for Loopallu 2014, so keep those eyes pealed. Head here for more on Loopallu.
