Last week saw an announcement that rocked the electronic music community. After a legendary 25 years in the business, the brothers Hartnoll, AKA Orbital have decided to call it a day, leaving behind them a legacy that has played a vital role in the development of electronic dance music as we know it.
Thankfully though, the two veterans will continue to work on their own individual projects. Whilst Paul now embarks on a brand new project - 8:58, Phil will continue to bring his dynamic, energetic DJ sets to the four corners of the globe, with his next stop being Manchester's Lowdown, which gets underway at Sound Control on November 1st.
The Hartnoll borthers' history is well documented - as part of Orbital, the duo produced some of the most groundbreaking works in the history of electronic music - this is something that goes without saying. Records like 'Halcyon + On + On' (relive that classic below), 'Belfast', 'The Box' and of course 'Chime' will forever stand out as pioneering works of genius, that since their release have continued to light up dancefloors across the country.
Phil has carved a career though not just from his productions, but as a passionate, hugely gifted DJ, able to craft sets that maintain a special unpredictability and eclecticism with his mixture of the old and new, the obscure and the classic.
With emphasis placed firmly on exhilarating a dancefloor, you can expect some serious fireworks when Phil Hartnoll gets behind the decks. Steve Thorpe, Metha, Red Oktober, Mark McIver and plenty more will be in support. Grab your Lowdown tickets here.
