MC SAS INTERVIEW
Lets catch up with MC SAS ahead of his new ep launch forthcoming on Sleep Less Records
Date published: 24th Jul 2023
Ahead of the release of his 'Humanity EP' We thought it was about time you got to know the bossman MC SAS a bit better. So we put these five fast questions to him...
Who were your first muscial influences?
My first influences would have been people like Stu Allen, who used to play jungle techno as it was then, then Fabio and Grooverider who started adding breaks and led to all the styles of jungle and drum 'n' bass that came after.
How's the Liverpool DnB scene developed over the years?
The Liverpool DnB scene has developed immensely. When I first started, you'd have clubs where there'd be ten or twenty people, and events which struggled to gain a crowd. Liverpool's always been more of a house scene. People in Liverpool like jungle and drum 'n' bass but the police were shutting a lot of the jungle clubs that would start up. Now it's moved into drum 'n' bass and found its audience in the city, it's gaining strength all the time.
Who are some Liverpool artists we should know about?
There's a guy called Deakin, he's been doing bits recently, doing really good production and deejaying. There's a deejay called Ghosty, who's one of the best deejays I've played with. There's also Nicky Talent, he's been on the scene for years, really talented. And there's Dupla, who I've started making some tunes with and gigging with.
What can people expect from your debut EP, 'Humanity'?
If you take Black Mirror and extend it, that's the sort of content. The same sort of topics. It's got some dancefloor-orientated vibes but with political lyrics. And I've got some production from myself on there so I'm really looking forward to that coming out.
What's coming up next?
The next release for me is the EP, and then I've been working on a track with Sweetpea. Event-wise, I've got another event coming up in the Zanzi Bar in September, but we've got a BBQ at 24 Kitchen Street on 24th August. And I'm at One in the Woods festival.
