Manchester Psych Festival announces new wave of artists for 2023
Are you after a trippy time in Manchester this Summer? Well, look no further than Manchester Psych Festival, who have just released some wicked new names for 2023
Date published: 23rd Mar 2023
Manchester's seminal day for all music kaleidoscopic and wonderfully weird, Manchester Psych Festival, is back once again for 2023, and if you thought those announced so far were all that's playing the multi-venue festival, then you are definitely tripping.
If you've been sitting at home, looking at the lineup, and thinking that it was already stacked - including the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Los Bitchos, Sorry, and The Lovely Eggs, among many others - then this announcement is bound to send you into the stratosphere.
Yep, we told you it was a wicked announcement. Joining The Brian Jonestown Massacre in the headline spot of the conscious-expanding corroboree is none other than the psych poet of queer discontent and intimacy, Ezra Furman. Elsewhere among the lineup is the likes of Dublin post-punk quintet The Murder Capital (whose live show in Manchester we recently reviewed); Californian carefree spirits, Allah-Las; the genre-spanning BODEGA; Dundalks mystical musicians, sharp as the condiment in their name, Just Mustard; and many many more that will be setting the hallucinogenic vibes all day long.
Manchester Psych Festival is one of the very best of the newer brand of festivals that take over the best venues in a city for one day only (much like Dot 2 Dot, Live at Leeds, and Neighbourhood), populating them with a vast array of carefully curated acts.
The venues around Manchester involved in this year's edition of the event are no joke. Those allowing the psychoactive soundwaves to emit from their systems include Albert Hall, The O2 Ritz, Canvas, Gorilla, YES, and The Deaf Institute. We weren't joking when we said it was some of the best.
However, where Manchester Psych Festival differs from the festivals of a similar ilk, is that it ventures off into all the facets of all things that embody a psychedelic edge; that's right, it ain't just about the music.
Also coming to the Northern musical capital will be a vast array of art and scran for you to indulge in. A blanketing range of Exhibitions, murals, workshops & visuals will take house around the city, as well as a scrumptious selection of exclusive food trucks and pop-up vendors to satiate the drunken stomach rumbles. Whilst these may have not been announced yet, they add an incredible side to the festival that cements it among the best in the area.
So for all you Mancs for whom twisting your melon never seemed close enough to the psychedelic experiences the Mondays were having on stage, as well as those from in and around the north (and beyond if you fancy and adventure) for whom mind-bending music and mystic marauding is a daily routine. This is the festival for you. Get those tickets sorted soon and have a day out in Mancunia that'll leave you in a state of psychedelic bliss.
